Eleven Tears

On my trip to New York City with my 'Rocky Mountain Rhythm' buddies last summer, we performed, went sight seeing, went to two Broadway musicals and just had a lot of fun in the Big Apple. One of my favorite things during the trip was the American Express 9/11 memorial, called Eleven Tears. It's dedicated to the eleven workers who lost their lives that day, and is one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture I have ever seen. I fell in love with this memorial that day. Basically, it is a medium sized pool of water with eleven sides that is made from shiny black granite. Each of the eleven sides has a name of one of the eleven workers who died, with words their family used to describe them written on the stone under the water. Over the pool is a huge, 600 pound quartz crystal, that hangs just inches above the water. The most beautiful part is when the "tears" that drop from the second floor ceiling every few seconds hit the water below. They don't fall all at once, but one here, one there, creating beautiful ripples and a very aesthetic effect.
